Every school must have a Child Protection Policy.  Our policy follows National and Local guidance.  The aim of the policy is to ensure that our school has effective measures in place to safeguard your children from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and wellbeing of the children are of the highest priority in all aspects of our school’s work.  Having the policy in place ensures that all members of our school community:

  • Are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
  • Know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern.
  • Know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding
  • Are aware of key indicators relating to child abuse.
  • Fully support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Safeguarding is not just about protecting children from deliberate harm.  It presents school with a wide range of issues that may need to be prepared for.  Where at all possible the school will share any concerns it may have with parents, unless to do so may put the child/children at risk of further harm.  This action is line with best guidance and is noted in the All Wales Child Protection Procedures 2008.  Where concerns have been identified or disclosed by a child or children, the school has a duty to make a referral to formal agencies so these concerns can be investigated.  The two main agencies responsible for investigations are social services and the police.

If you have any queries regarding the Safeguarding and Wellbeing of your child/children, please contact the school and we will endeavour to answer you concerns.

The school has a Designated Person with responsibility for Child Protection within the school.  The designated person is Mr Rowlands.  If Mr Rowlands is unavailable the Deputy designated persons are Mr Waters, Miss Rowland and Mrs Maloney.  The nominated governors for child protection at our school are: Mr Allan Tait and Mr David Williams.
