Pontnewydd Primary School

Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day

Secondary Admissions

Children normally transfer from primary (Year 6) to secondary school (Year 7) at the start of the school year in which their twelfth birthday falls (i.e. 1 September to 31 August inclusive).

Children will be eligible to move to Secondary School in September 2021 if their date of birth lies between 01.09.09 and 31.08.10.

The majority of pupils in our school move on to Croesyceiliog School and there are a variety of transition activities that run in Year 5 and Year 6 to aid the move.

We also have a small number of pupils who go to other schools in the local area, including Cwmbran High School, Abersychan Comprehensive, West Monmouth Comprehensive School, Crownbridge School and St Alban's High School.

The closing date for admissions to secondary school has already passed, however if you still wish to apply you can download a copy of form below or obtain a hard copy from the school/by contacting Torfaen Admissions on 01495 766915. Please note that any applications received after this date will be processed as a late application and may affect your application.

Families who have already applied will be notified by Monday 1st March 2021 as to whether the Authority has been able to comply with their preference.

If you are not a Torfaen resident you will be required to contact your Home Authority to seek advice on how to apply.

If however you wish for your child to attend a Voluntary Aided School, you will need to contact that school directly for the necessary admission arrangements.
