Free School Meals
Torfaen will continue to pay directly into bank accounts through the time the school reopens at the end of June and throughout the Summer holidays. There will be no catering available on site when the school reopens and parents of Free School Meal children will need to use this money to provide their child with a packed lunch and drink. You can continue to apply for Free School Meals if your circumstances have changed and you believe you may be eligible by clicking the link below.
From today Torfaen will be paying directly into bank accounts for Free School Meal payments.
Please contact Benefits if you haven't received anything and you have already registered.
If you haven't yet registered please do so here - https://www.torfaen.gov.uk/en/Forms/Request/FreeSchoolMeals-Covid19.aspx
In order to reduce the numbers of staff and volunteers Torfaen have out and about and to help them achieve social distancing, from Monday 30th March, they will start delivering a weekly lunch box instead of a daily delivery. Please make sure you register for home delivery using the link to the form below if you haven’t already registered.
The box will provide enough food for one week and will contain a variety of foods to form part of a nutritionally balanced diet.
Delivery times will be different to the sandwich delivery, and could be delivered at any time during the normal working day.
Due to the logistics of this alternative method, the box delivery will take place over a couple of days, so if yours is not received Monday, they will get it to you as soon as possible.
Please still register ASAP for payments from Monday 20th April (see below for more details).
From today (Wednesday) Torfaen are looking to provide a home delivery service and would ask that anyone that needs a Free School Meal to register as soon as possible - click here to access the form.
From 20th April 2020 onward, an e-voucher scheme to pay a credit into your bank account equivalent to the cost of your child’s free school meal will be paid on a weekly basis. Please fill in the form below ASAP to register for the payments.
The decision has now been made that the administering of FSM entitlement while the education sites are closed will now be carried out by the Benefits Team. The will replace the current interim scheme after Friday 3rd April. Until then packed lunches can still be collected from the sites listed below. Monday 6th - Friday 17th April are Easter holiday dates where no Free School Meals will be supplied (as normal in the holidays). The new scheme of issuing e-vouchers will begin on Monday 20th April.
Torfaen have set up an online application form for parents who are entitled to FSM to complete and supply them with bank details so they can issue weekly payments aimed at providing food for the children while they are at home. This form is called FSM COVID 19 and can be found by clicking here.
The form can also be found under the Benefits section of the customer portal – www.torfaen.mycouncilservices.com
Torfaen are encouraging parents/guardians to apply for this online as quickly as possible so they can get all the relevant details set up on our system to issue payments. They are aiming to issue payments on a weekly basis from Monday 20th April. Please apply online if you have internet as there will be a lot of phone calls to process if everyone calls. You can phone the benefits team to apply if you do not have internet access.
